MRB1 Construction Information


Construction Image
  1. The MRB1 construction fence will enclose the open area directly north of the Materials Science & Engineering 1 Building and will extend to encompass much of Parking Lot 25, immediately east of the Student Recreation Center.
  2. All normal access to MS&E will be maintained.
  3. Pedestrian access from Parking Lot 24 to Parking Lot 25, via the sidewalk in between the track and the soccer fields, will be closed as of August 19, 2016.
  4. Pedestrian access to the Athletics track, soccer & softball fields will be maintained.
  5. Construction traffic will access the MRB1 construction site from the north, via Parking Lot 25. 2-hour parking at Parking Lot 25 will be taken off-line as of September 12 to allow all MRB1 construction traffic to access the site via this parking lot.
  6. Accessible parking spaces will be maintained at the northern end of Parking Lot 25.
  7. Pedestrian access to the Student Recreation Center will be maintained from Linden and Aberdeen.

Visits to MRB1 Site:

All University academic and staff personnel who are needing access to the construction site that is now in progress, should notify the Project Program Coordinator (Cathleen Stasik @ 909-781-0990) one week prior to intended visit. The Project Manager will advise the Contractor's superintendent, obtain necessary liability waivers, and ensure that proper protective safety equipment is used by all who enter the construction site. Safety is our main priority. 

The UCR MRB1 Team recognizes that construction activities will at time pose inconveniences and disruption to the surrounding neighborhood. We thank you for your patience during construction of this project.

Construction Alerts- April 2017

Construction Alert #25

The following activities will be occurring from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction Site on April 22nd – April 28th:

  • Site Utility Excavation and Rebar Placement
    On Saturday, April 22nd, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will be excavating and placing site utilities on the south and west side of the project and placing rebar in preparation for shotcrete. The General Contractor will also be removing a concrete slab near the south of the building pad. Some noise will be evident from this process.
  • Site Utility Installation:
    During the week of April 24th – 28th, please be aware that that noise levels may be noticeable as the MRB1 General Contractor will be excavating and placing site utilities on the south and west side of the project.
  • Rebar Installation, Placement of Lower Level Walls:
    During the week of April 24th – 28th, please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable at the western areas of the MRB1 site from excavation, rebar placement, and concrete wall placement within the building pad.
  • Level One Deck Forming
    During the week of April 24th – 28th, please be aware that noise levels may be noticeable as the MRB1 General Contractor will be forming the Level One floor deck which will include hammering and saw cutting and embed placement.

In all instances, the Contractor will monitor activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.

Construction Alert #24

The following activities will be occurring from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction Site on April 15th – April 21th:

  • Preparation for Slab on Grade Placement
    On Saturday, April 15th, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will be placing rebar and excavating and backfilling in preparation for slab on grade placement.
  • Excavation and Site Utility Installation:
    During the week of April 17th – 21st, please be aware that that noise levels may be noticeable as the MRB1 General Contractor will be excavating and placing site utilities on the south and west side of the project.
  • Excavation, Rebar Installation, Placement of the Concrete for Foundations, and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    During the week of April 17th – 21st, please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable at the western areas of the MRB1 site from excavation, rebar placement, shotcrete wall and foundation placement within the building pad.
  • Slab on Grade Placement:
    During the week of April 17th – 21st, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will be placing part of the lower level slab on grade. Concrete trucks will be entering the site from the Linden Street entrance to Parking Lot 25.
  • Forming Level 1 Deck:
    During the week of April 17th – 21st, please be aware that that noise levels may be noticeable as the MRB1 General Contractor begins forming the Level 1 floor deck.

In all instances, the Contractor will monitor activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.

Construction Alert #23

The following activities will be occurring from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction Site on April 8th – April 14th:

  • Site Utility Installation:
    On Saturday, April 8th, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will be placing site utilities on the south side of the project. The Contractor will also be placing rebar and excavating and backfilling in preparation for slab on grade placement.
  • Excavation, Rebar Installation, Placement of the Concrete for Foundations, and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    During the week of April 8th-April 14th, please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable at the western areas of the MRB1 site from excavation, rebar placement, and foundation placement within the building pad.
  • Excavation and Site Utility Installation:
    During the week of April 8th-April 14th, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will be excavation for placing site utilities on the west side of the project during the entire week.
  • Slab on Grade Placement:
    On Wednesday, April 12th, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will be placing part of the lower level slab on grade. This will be a large concrete pour and work will commence very early Wednesday morning.

In all instances, the Contractor will monitor activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.

Construction Alert #22

The following activities will be occurring from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction Site on April 1st – April 7th:

  • Rebar Installation and Excavation and Backfill:
    On Saturday, April 1st, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will placing rebar and excavating and backfilling in preparation for slab on grade placement. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.
  • Excavation, Rebar Installation, Placement of the Concrete for Foundations, Shotcrete Walls, and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    During the week of April 3-April 7, please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable at the western areas of the MRB1 site from excavation, rebar placement, and foundation placement within the building pad. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.
  • Site Utility Installation:
    During the week of April 3-April 7, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will placing site utilities on the south of the project during the entire week. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.

Construction Alert #21

The following activities will be occurring from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction Site on Thursday, 30th:

  • Utility Vault Installation
    Please be aware that on Thursday, March 30th, there will be a crane set up in the existing fire lane north of the MS&E building which will be used for setting a new utility vault. While emergency access will be maintained, general service lane access east of the crane will be temporarily closed for the day to allow this work to complete.

Construction Alert #20

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction Site for the period March 25th-March 31st:

  • Rebar Installation and Pouring of Foundations:
    On Saturday, March 25th, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will be placing rebar and excavating and backfilling in preparation for slab on grade placement at the west area of the building pad. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.
  • Excavation, Rebar Installation, Placement of the Concrete for Foundations, Shotcrete Walls, and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    During the week of March 27th-March 31th please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable at the western areas of the MRB1 site from excavation, rebar placement, and foundation placement within the building pad. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.
  • Excavation for Site Utilities and Site Utilities Installation:
    During the week of March 27th-March 31th please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations excavating at the western and southern areas of the site for installation of utilities. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #19

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction Site for the period March 18th-March 24th:

  • Rebar Installation and Pouring of Foundations:
    On Saturday, March 18th, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will placing rebar and pouring spread footings in the northern site areas. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.
  • Forming and Rebar Installation, Placement of the Shotcrete Walls and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    During the week of March 20th-March 24th please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable at the northern and western areas of the MRB1 site from rebar placement and shotcrete wall and column placement within the building pad. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.
  • Excavation for Site Utility Installation:
    During the week of March 20th-March 24th please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations excavating on the north area for site utilities and concrete foundations. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #18

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site for the period of March 11th - March 17th:

  • Rebar Installation and Pouring of Foundations:
    On Saturday, March 11th, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will be placing rebar and excavating for spread footings in the north and south site areas. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations by the most expedient methods.
  • Forming and Rebar Installation, Placement of the Shotcrete Walls and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    During the week of March 13th – March 17th, please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the north and south areas of MRB1 site from shotcrete wall placement and concrete column placement within the building pad. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations.
  • Excavation for, and Installation of Site Utilities:
    During the week of March 13th – March 17th, please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations excavating on the north and south areas for site utilities. Chilled water and steam pipe installation will occur on the south of the project, just north of the MS&E Building. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #17

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site for the period of March 4th - March 10th:

  • Rebar Installation and Pouring of Foundations:
    On Saturday, March 4th, please be aware that the MRB1 General Contractor will placing rebar and pouring spread footings in the north and south site areas. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations by the most expedient methods.
  • Forming and Rebar Installation, Placement of the Shotcrete Walls and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations excavating on the north area for site utilities and concrete foundations.     Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations excavating on the north and south site areas for site utilities and concrete foundations. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus operations from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #16

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site for the period of Feb 25th - March 3rd:

  • Soil Export Trucking:
    On Saturday, February 25th, high numbers of trucks will be entering and leaving the MRB1 Construction site, via the entrance at Linden Street and Parking Lot 25; flagmen, signage, and caution tape will be present.
  • Forming and Rebar Installation, Placement of the Shotcrete Walls and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the north and east areas of MRB1 site from shotcrete wall and column placement within the building pad. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus operations.
  • Excavation for Concrete Foundations, Rebar Installation, Pouring of Foundations, and Site Utility Installation on the North and South Areas of the Project:
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations excavating on the north and south site areas for site utilities and concrete foundations. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus operations from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #15

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site for the period of Feb 20th - 24th:

  • Excavation for Concrete Foundations, Rebar Installation, Pouring of Foundations, and Site Utility Installation on the North and South Areas of the Project:
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations excavating on the north and south site areas that are slightly north of the MS&E for site utilities and concrete foundations. This will include the elevator pits located near the southeast corner and western part of the building pad along with backfilling of utility trenches. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus operations.
  • Forming and Rebar Installation, Placement of the Shotcrete Walls and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the north and east areas of MRB1 site from shotcrete wall and column placement within the building pad. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus operations.

Construction Alert #14

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site for the period of Feb 13th - 17th:

  • Excavation for Concrete Foundations, Rebar Installation, Pouring of Foundations, and Site Utility Installation on the North and South Areas of the Project:
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations excavating on the north and south site areas that are slightly north of the MS&E for site utilities and concrete foundations. This will include the elevator pits located near the southeast corner and western part of the building pad along with backfilling of utility trenches. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus operations from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.
  • Forming and Rebar Installation of the Shotcrete Walls and Lower Level Vertical Columns and Walls:
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the north and east areas of MRB1 site from shotcrete wall and column placement within the building pad. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus operations from crane moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #13

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site:

  • Excavation for Concrete Foundations and Utility Trench Backfill: Saturday, February 4th
  • Excavation for Concrete Foundations, Rebar Installation, Pouring of Foundations, and Site Utility Installation: February 6 – February 10, 2017
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus Operations from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #12

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site:

  • Site Utility Installation during the entire Week January 30th – February 3rd
    Site infrastructure work for utility installation on the south side of the MRB1 Site and just north of the MS&E building will provide minimal noise during the entire week. The Contractor will make every effort to oversee the work in order to minimize any noise from the underground site utilities.
  • Excavation and Rebar Installation of Foundations during the entire Week: January 30th – February 3rd
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations including excavation, rebar installation and pouring concrete for the foundations in the northeast corner of the project. Construction activities will include removal of soils at elevator pits located near the southeast corner and western part of the building footprint. Construction equipment and methods will generate some additional noise during this period. The contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus Operations from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #11

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site:

  • Delivery of (2) Single Wide Subcontractor Job Trailers on Monday January 16th, 2017
    The Contractor does not anticipate heavy traffic due to the holiday, but they will be providing traffic control at the end of Parking Lot 25 and monitoring on Linden Street.
  • Site Utility Installation during the entire Week January 16th – 20th, 2017
    Site infrastructure work for utility installation on the south side of the MRB1 Site and just north of the MS&E building will provide minimal noise during the entire week. The Contractor will make every effort to oversee the work in order to minimize any noise from the underground site utilities.
  • Excavation and Rebar Installation of Foundations during the entire Week: January 16th – 20th, 2017
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site from Contractor operations including excavation and rebar installation of the foundations in the northeast corner of the project. Construction activities will include removal of soils at elevator pits located near the southeast corner and western part of the building footprint. Construction equipment and methods will generate some additional noise during this period. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to Campus operations from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site:

  • Over-excavation, Compaction, and Grading: January 7, 2017
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site. Contractor operations will endeavor to minimize noise and vibration impacts from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #9

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site:

  • Over-excavation, Compaction, and Grading: January 3rd – 4th
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site. Contractor operations will endeavor to minimize noise and vibration impacts from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.
  • Installation of New Storm Drain Lines and Water Lines: January 4th
    Contractor activities will include site infrastructure work for storm drain and water lines with construction equipment and methods which will add to the noise level on this day. The Contractor will make every effort to oversee the work in order to minimize any noise from the installation of underground site utilities. Any vibration from these activities shall be monitored, but is not expected to present an impact to campus operations.
  • Excavation of Footings and Elevator Pits: January 3rd – 11th
    Construction activities will include removal of soils at all elevator pits within the building footprint. Construction equipment and methods will generate some additional noise during this period. The Contractor will monitor these activities in order to minimize any impacts to campus operations.

Construction Alert #8

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site:

  • Loud Noise and Vibration from Demolition Activities: December 27–29
    Please be aware that noise levels and vibration will be extremely noticeable on the MRB1 site. The contractor will be complete the removal of concrete footings and bench north of the MS&E building. (Due to inclement weather, the removal of the concrete footings and bench was delayed and will continue 12/27-12/29.) This will be accomplished by using a jackhammer and breaker. Where alternative means and methods could be also utilized, the contractor will make every effort to employ them to minimize the noise and vibration as much as possible.
  • Transport Crane: December 30
    Truck transport will load and remove crane at Linden Avenue entrance to Parking Lot 25.
  • Over-excavation, Compaction, and Grading: December 29- 30, January 3-4
    Please be aware that noise levels and some vibration will be noticeable on the MRB1 site. Contractor operations will endeavor to minimize noise and vibration impacts from earth moving equipment and trucks by the most expedient methods.

Construction Alert #7

The following activities will be occurring from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on the MRB1 Construction site December 21st-23rd:

  • Loud Noise and Vibration from Demolition Activities
    Please be aware that noise levels and vibration will be extremely noticeable on the MRB1 site. The contractor will be removing concrete footings and bench north of the MS&E building. This will be accomplished by using a jackhammer and breaker. The following activities will be occurring on the MRB1 Construction Site over the period of 11/28 and 12/2:

  • Soil export trucking
    • Location: high numbers of trucks entering and leaving the MRB1 Construction site, via the entrance at Linden Street and Parking Lot 25; flagmen, signage, and caution tape will be present.
  • Rough grading and site compaction
    • Location: MRB1 building pad, associated noise and vibration.

Construction Alert #3

The following activities will be occurring on the MRB1 Construction Site over the period of 11/18, 11/21 & 11/22:

  • Soil export trucking
    • Location: high numbers of trucks entering and leaving the MRB1 Construction site, via the entrance at Linden Street and Parking Lot 25.

Construction Alert #2

The following activities will be occurring on the MRB1 Construction Site over the period of 11/7-11/16:

  • Construction site ramp compaction: 11/07-11/09
    • Location: at the northwest corner of construction site
  • Temporary fire lane compaction: 11/08-11/10
    • Location: north of MS&E
  • Various demolition activities: 11/09-11/16
    • Location: north, east and south ends of project
      • Concrete cutting of portion of existing fire lane north of MS&E
      • Limited tree removal
      • Existing athletic lighting pole footing removal
      • Break up of concrete debris to remove rebar for transport
